Welcome

Tera Naset

Welcome!  My name is Tera, and I'm a Registered Dietitian by day, and a total foodie by, well, all the time!  Whether it's grocery shopping, cooking or eating out, food is my happy place.  I went so far as to change careers eight years ago from finance to nutrition, just so that I'd have an excuse to think about food literally all day long.  Little did I know that my new career would become so personally useful in the not so distant future.

In February of 2017 I was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE).  After multiple meetings with a gastroenterologist and allergist, uneventful skin testing, and much discussion with my husband, I decided to embark on the 6 food elimination diet recommended for adult EoE.  Studies show that this method can determine the cause of EoE in approximately 70% of adult patients.  I weighed the difficulty of completing such a restrictive diet against the value of knowing exactly what is causing my trouble, and in the end the diet won.

As you can imagine, a diet that eliminates 6 food groups is incredibly challenging to adhere to.  It's a logistical nightmare when eating out, and a mental disaster when it comes to boredom and food cravings.  Most patients are referred to a dietitian before starting such a challenge, but in my case, I AM the dietitian!  So instead, I thought I would chronicle my efforts here, in the event that they might help others on a similar path.
